ANAN RegistrarThe Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has appointed Mr Terkaa Gemade as its new Registrar. Gemade, who succeeded Sir (Dr.) Peter Ibekwe, resumed duty in May, 2009. Prior to his appointment, the new Registrar/CEO was a Council member of ANAN.

 

Born in Mkar, Konshisha Local Government of Benue State, the new ANAN Registrar graduated at the Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria , Kaduna State in 1982 with a BSc in Accounting and had the Master in Business Administration (MBA) post-graduate degree at the University of Jos , Plateau State in 1989. 

He joined ANAN in 1997, became a member of the Council in 2002 and a Fellow of the Association in 2007. 

The new Registrar was a two-term Chairman of Investigating Committee of the ANAN Council from 2000 to 2004. He was a member of the Ad-hoc Committee on Liaison with Federal Government over all matters of interests to the Association between 2002 and 2004.

Gemade was also a member of the ad-hoc Committee on the review of staff conditions of service and the organizational structure of the Association.

The new ANAN Registrar was also a two-term Chairman, Law, Parliamentary and International Affairs Committee of the Association from 2005 to date. He started his working career in 1978 as an Accountant at the College of Education, Katsina-Ala and rose to become the Acting Bursar at Advanced Teachers’ College, Makurdi in 1981.

The new ANAN Registrar became the Deputy Bursar at the College of Education, Katsina-Ala in 1982.

 He was Finance and Administration Manager, Consus Nigeria Ltd, Jos between 1983 and 1985; Executive Director (Finance and Administration) Anderson Drilling Nig. Ltd, Jos in 1985 and 1987; and later became the Managing Director, Consus Nigeria Ltd between 1987 and 2005.

Gemade was a Director, Urban Habitat & Properties Ltd. Abuja (1995 to 1998); Director, Benue Bottling Company Ltd, Markurdi (1987 to date); and Director, Benro Packaging Company Ltd, Gboko (1999 to date).

The new ANAN Registrar was also a Director, BIG Communications Ltd, Makurdi; as well as a Director, Centre for Budget Assessment, Enlightenment and Accountability, Abuja  

He was very active during his university days and nominated Chairman, Audit Committee, Students Union, ABU Zaria; as well as the President, Accounting Students’ Association, ABU, Zaria.

He later became the National President, Nigerian University Accountancy Students’ Association. Gemade also participated in national legislative processes including the review of the Companies and Allied Matters Act at the Law Review Commission. 

He also participated in the Financial Reporting Council Bill; EFCC Amendment Bill; CBN Amendment Bill; Fiscal Responsibility Bill; Public Procurement (Due Process) Bill; Federal Inland Revenue Services Bill; Securities and Exchange Commission Bill; and CBN Amendment Bill.

One of the workshops attended by Gemade include: ``The Challenges of Information Technology on Financial Reforms, Accounting and Auditing,’’ jointly organised by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and ANAN.

Other workshops attended by the new ANAN Registrar were  ``Fraud Prevention and Investigation Procedures’’, organised by the Apha Investigation Agency Ltd, Jos; and improving corporate financial reporting’’, organised by Nigerian Accounting Standards Board (NASB)

 Conferences attended by Gemade include: reconstructing national values for growth and development organised by ANAN in Abuja ; the reform process in Nigeria: - challenge to professionals, organised by ANAN; and the impact of corruption on national development: a search for remedy, also organised by ANAN.

Gemade is a member of three professional bodies: ANAN; Institute of Industrialists and Corporate Administrators; and Institute of Fraud Examiners.
